The Mercer County Jail inmate registry in Pennsylvania is a public resource that allows anyone to check who is currently in custody at the county facility. MercerCourt.us helps quickly find public information about current and recent inmates. Additionally, data can be obtained through the official county website, by calling the jail directly, or by visiting the facility in person. Searching the registry allows you to find out the detainee's name, admission date, charges, and the arresting authority. The registry is maintained by the Mercer County Jail administration, and the report itself is posted on the official county government website — Mercer County Jail Report. Information is updated regularly and reflects the current inmate population.
Search Current Inmates in Mercer Jail
There are several ways to check if a specific person is in custody at the county jail.
Online Search
- Go to the Mercer County Jail Report page.
- Enter the inmate's last name in the "Last Name" field and click the search button.
- The system will display a list of individuals matching the criteria, indicating the admission date, reason for detention, and the authority that issued the warrant (Committing Authority).
- A full alphabetical list of all inmates is also available — it can be browsed manually or searched using the browser's search function (Ctrl+F).
To search, you will need the person's full legal last name. A booking number can help narrow down the results if you know it. Additionally, MercerCourt.us provides access to public court information related to inmates' cases.
Juvenile offenders are not displayed in the public registry.
By Phone
Call the jail and ask if a specific person is being held. Be prepared to provide the full name.
In Person
Visit the jail's administrative office during business hours.
If the person has been transferred to a state facility, use the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections inmate locator. This tool covers only state prisons, not county ones.
Find Mercer Jail Booking Records Online
A booking record is created at the moment a detained person undergoes the jail registration process. During booking, the following are recorded:
- Unique booking number
- Date and time of admission
- Charges
- Arresting authority or warrant issuer
- Detainee's name and surname
On the county's Jail Report page, this data is displayed in a concise format — name, admission date, reason for detention, and warrant issuer. For example, a record may indicate "SENTENCED BY A COURT OF RECORD" or "HELD FOR VARIOUS FED/STATE/POLICE" with the relevant authority specified.
For more detailed information about a criminal case, contact the Mercer County Clerk of Courts — this office maintains all original documents of the Court of Common Pleas. Court files can also be found through the Unified Judicial System of Pennsylvania portal, selecting Mercer County Court of Common Pleas from the list of courts.
Need a state-level criminal history check? The Pennsylvania State Police provide this service through the PATCH (Pennsylvania Access to Criminal History) system.
Search the Mercer Jail Roster by Last Name or Booking Number
The official county jail registry supports two main search methods.
By Last Name
This is the most common method. Enter the last name in the search field on the Jail Report's main page. A few tips:
- Check the spelling — the system searches for an exact match.
- If the last name is complex or has multiple spellings, try entering only the first few letters and then manually reviewing the results.
- The alphabetical list displays all inmates at once, so you can simply scroll through the page or press Ctrl+F and enter the name.
By Booking Number
If you know the booking number, it allows you to find the desired record immediately without the risk of confusion with namesakes. The Jail Report page offers the option to filter by the warrant-issuing authority (Committing Authority), which also helps narrow down the results.
If the Search Yields No Results
- Ensure the last name is spelled correctly — even one letter matters.
- The person may have already been released or transferred to another facility.
- Call the jail directly at 724-662-3800.
- If the person may have been transferred to a state facility, check the state inmate locator.
Jail Roster Updates and Search Limitations in Mercer
The county jail registry is updated regularly throughout the day, but it does not happen instantly in real-time. There may be a delay of several minutes to several hours between the actual admission of a detainee and the appearance of their record on the site, depending on staff workload and time of day.
Main limitations to be aware of:
- Delay after arrest. A recently detained person may not yet appear on the list if the registration process is not complete.
- Disappearance after release. Records of individuals released on bail, by court decision, or after serving their term are usually removed from the list shortly thereafter.
- Not an archive. The registry only reflects the current inmate population. It does not store the history of all past bookings.
- Data entry errors. Sometimes a last name may be entered incorrectly, complicating the search.
For historical records or documents not available in the online registry, submit a request through the Mercer County Open Records office in accordance with the Pennsylvania Right-to-Know Law (Act 3 of 2008). This law requires government agencies to provide access to public documents unless there are legal grounds for restriction.
Note: The jail registry and criminal history search through PATCH are different tools. The Jail Report shows who is currently in custody. PATCH provides an official state-level criminal record check.
